As a Spanish or French Studies major at Occidental, you’ll develop advanced language proficiency while studying literature, culture, and linguistics in the Spanish- or French-speaking worlds. Courses taught in the target language help you analyze texts and other cultural artifacts, understand how languages are structured and used, and communicate effectively across cultural and linguistic boundaries.
The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Spanish and French Studies Department encourages learning beyond the classroom. You’ll be strongly supported in pursuing study abroad, internships, and community-based learning in Los Angeles, where Spanish is widely spoken and culturally embedded, and where French is part of the city’s global cultural scene.
