The Gates Cambridge Scholarship funds a year or more of graduate school at the University of Cambridge for leaders whose work is committed to improving the lives of others.
2026-2027 Deadlines:

Applications will open in early September 2026
National Deadline: TBD (typically mid-October for U.S. applicants and December or January for international applicants)
Purpose:
The aims to build a network of future leaders dedicated to improving others' lives by funding scholarships for graduate study (master's or doctorate degrees) at the University of Cambridge.
Eligibility:
In order to be eligible to apply, an applicant must:
- be a citizen of any country outside of the U.K. (U.K. dual citizenship is usually okay if you've been living in the U.S.)
- be applying to pursue an at the University of Cambridge
Slight preference is given to candidates applying to a PhD at Cambridge.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ application process:
You do not need to apply through Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ for the Gates Cambridge Scholarship, but you may choose to take advantage of the same summer advising given to Marshall and Rhodes candidates at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ. To do so, please complete the form by June 1st. You are then encouraged to participate in revision workshops and one-on-one meetings with the Fellowships Director in June-September to revise your application.
All applicants are also encouraged to share drafts of their Gates Cambridge essay with the Office of National and International Fellowships for advice.
