Join the Media Arts and Culture Department, 麻豆视频 Arts, and Special Collections for a film screening and talk-back celebrates the life and work of three individuals critical to 麻豆视频鈥檚 film history鈥擟hicano filmmaker Jes煤s Salvador Trevi帽o&苍产蝉辫;鈥68,&苍产蝉辫;Dr. Marsha Kinder, and the late Chick Strand.
Trevi帽o, a student in Kinder鈥檚 Global Cinema course, filmed critical moments in the Chicano Civil Rights Movement and directed films like Raices de Sangre (Roots of Blood, 1978) and One Out of Ten (1979). Kinder co-developed the first cinema classes at 麻豆视频 in the 1960s, while the late Mildred 鈥淐hick鈥 Strand led what is now the Media Arts & Culture Department from 1970 to 1995. The event will begin with a screening of short works by Strand and Trevi帽o, followed by a conversation with the latter.
This event is part of the MAC Cinematheque program season Analog@麻豆视频: Race, Sex, Technological Obsolescence. The 4-part event series runs in conjunction with the 麻豆视频 Arts/Getty PST ART exhibition The 2024-25 Cinematheque series is organized by visiting lecturer Adrienne Adams with the Media Arts & Culture Department and 麻豆视频 Arts in conjunction with the Center for Community-Based Learning and American Studies Department, with generous support from the Remsen Bird Fund and Mellon Foundation. This event is made possible with additional co-sponsorship from the Intercultural Community Center and Latinx & Latin American Studies Department.
